My Bernese Mountain Dog's nails were falling off. My vet had no resolution. Went to a specialist.... nothing. A family member suggested that I contact Dr. Hawkes and I did. He asked me for some pictures of her feet (I live in Orlando) and he stated that it looked like a rare disease called Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy (SLO). I went back to my vet who never heard of it but sent me to an autoimmune specialist. They confirmed that she had this disease, worked with treatments and now we have her in complete remission. From contemplating having to put her down or remove her nails to a full recovery, Dr. Hawkes saved her. He looked beyond his checkbook and gave me information to help me save my dog. After confirming his suspicions, he even suggested treatment, and followed up with me! It is nice to see that his love of animals outweighed anything else. I wish we had a vet that was 1/2 as knowledgeable in Orlando as what you have in Moorehead City.

Dr Hawkes and the Arendell team went above and beyond to make sure my dog was very well taken care of and comfortable pre, during and post surgery. Everyone was friendly, professional, knowledgable and caring. I would highly recommend the Arendell Animal Hospital! I wish they were located in the town we live!

We purchased a puppy that apparently had no health problems. Got him home. He wouldn't eat for 2 days. Throwing up/diahrrea. We brought him to Arendell hospital upon open on 11/13/17. He tested + for parvo. They suggested we admit him and re-evaluate his condition in 2 days. We called every day, morning and night receiving positive news about our puppy's condition. However, we were told he was overhydrated so they were going to take him off his IV. They also said he should stay another couple of days so he could continue to improve. So we continued to call daily, being told he was doing well, eating drinking. No vomit/diahrrea. We could pick him up Friday evening, he was doing great! So, we go around 5: 45 pm. They close at 6. Dr. Hawkes discussed meds and feeding protocol. Said that illness would run it's course in a few days. But he was doing great. They brought him out to us, asked us to please hurry out because he might still be contagious and didn't want it to spread in the office. So we did. Happy and excited to bring home our puppy. We got in the car and began to check him over. He was cold to the touch, lifeless, couldn't stand, his eyes looked like he was no longer with us, his gums were white and had what looked like a big water balloon on his stomach. He was also having uncontrollable bloody diarrhea all over my husband's lap. We pulled over 10 min. Into the ride. They we're closed, no answer. We get him home where my family was waiting for our puppy whom we were all told was doing so well. We brought him in and tried to stand him up, he fell to the floor. He was taking 10 breaths/min. If even and was showing no sign of seeing or hearing us. My husband began to call 2 24 hr. Emergency vet offices to discuss symptoms. We were told to bring him in ASAP it didn't sound good. Too late he died 5 min. later. ABSOLUTEY DEVASTATING! Now, with all of that being said, I understand with parvo there is no guarantee. What I DON'T understand, is how we were told how much better he was and he was ready to go home, to dying an hour later! So either he was never doing any better and they figured they would continue to let him suffer and keep billing me or he was starting to do better and they overhydrated him to the point of it being fatal! I called the office first thing Monday morning and Dr. Hawkes told me he was not like that there. That's a lie! An animal does not do a complete turn around in 3 min. I am disgusted and DON'T know how he calls himself a Vet. Time for a new profession. Please use caution if you decide to take your beloved animal here. If you do, let it be for basics. Shots, maybe a checkup.
